Heritage of the Australian Technology Park

Once home to Australia’s largest and most technologically advanced railway workshop, Australian Technology Park heritage is receiving a major investment from Australian Technology Park Sydney Ltd (ATPSL).

The bulk of a $2.5 million expenditure program for heritage preservation, maintenance and promotion was undertaken in 2010.

“We are doing everything we can in our role as custodian of the Park to ensure the buildings, machinery and the social influence of this park over time are remembered long into the future,” says ATPSL Management Managing Director Roy Wakelin-King said.

The major feature is the upgrade of Innovation Plaza (between the Locomotive Workshops and the National Innovation Centre) to feature both pivot and steam cranes.

Other work includes the re-flooring of Bays 1 and 2 of the Locomotive Workshops and the display of heritage items in these bays, façade building works, structural repairs and the painting of items. Work completed includes the Pump Room refurbishment and the painting of the Water Tower.
