Up Close and Digital is bridging the divide between people working in traditional and new media in Australia, in a seminar room near you.
This series of free events draws the best directors and producers working in film and television together with the new creatives making a splash on the digital scene, and encourages collaboration between them through lively panel discussion.
Initiated as a joint venture between the Australian Directors Guild and Australian Interactive Media Industry Association NSW (AIMIA NSW), and hosted by the ATP, Up Close and Digital also provides an opportunity for individual sponsors to raise their profile among key players in film, television and digital media.
Elcom Technology grabbed the chance to support the second and most recent event in the series, held in July, which focused on Screen Australia and the NSW Film & Television Office as critical government funding bodies.
Dr Ruth Harley (CEO, Screen Australia), Veronica Gleeson (Development Manager, Screen Australia), Tania Chambers (CEO, NSWFTO), Martin Williams (Senior Development Executive, NSWFTO) and Jennifer Wilson (Director, The Project Factory) spoke about their vision of the digital future, outlined their relevant funding models and pathways, encouraged screen content directors and producers to get more engaged in the digital space and fielded questions from the 130-strong audience. During the networking session afterwards, Elcom demonstrated how its web content management system easily updates content for interactive flash websites.
Elcom decided to sponsor Up Close and Digital to show the industry what it does and how it fits into the digital media space, explains Josh Anstey, Elcom Marketing Coordinator.
“The event exceeded our expectations. There was a lot of interest from the attendees in how we could work together in the future. We weren’t focusing on a specific quantity of leads, but we were able to socialise and network, and ended up with some great contacts and future opportunities.”
Elcom CEO John Anstey, pictured above at the event, agrees. “It was the perfect opportunity to explore synergies between the digital media industry and web content management technology. We think positioning Elcom as a partner in delivering digital content was positively received.”
The next Up Close and Digital event, on Tuesday 29 September, will focus on broadcasters and digital content in the present and future. Eight speakers from major broadcasting and social networking companies will lead the discussion.
