FACILITIES MANAGER ATP NICTA
At Work … my responsibilities as Facilities Manager is the day-to-day facilities operations within NICTA ATP’s accommodation and is varied and unpredictable. It includes budgets, fit out works, developing and managing service contracts, space allocation, security, asset management, OH & S, furniture, fittings and equipment… to name a few. There are also regular curve balls from left of field that require trouble shooting.
My First Job … was processing new loan applications for home mortgages and credit control which resulted in the drive to escape to go travelling and shed all responsibilities.
My favourite part on the park … is the city panorama from Level 5 balcony of the NICTA building at dusk.
An influence that has shaped my life ... travelling constantly for seven years through Asia & Africa which provided many life experiences on this journey and took me well out of my comfort zone. There is not one single experience or person that has helped to shape my life, many people have been influential and critical to and for me on my work and personal journey through life and hopefully key people will continue to do so
The place where I grew up … is in New Zealand and as the saying goes “it is a good place to be born in and a good place to die in but you need to get out in the between years”.
My best choice … there is not one thing that I could name as my best choice – to date my choices have led me to a new horizon – but probably the most passionate choice was the founding of windsurfing shops, school and windsurfing board factory with my partner and selling them for a healthy profit. There are not many jobs where you can live and breathe your hobby and have a healthy income.
My worst choice … to date I am content with all the choices I have made or had to make.
If I could wave a magic wand ... being no Pope or fairy godmother… where to start … for the wider world a gentler, more caring and supportive environment for all those people who have not had opportunities.
The highlight of my week … is that no two weeks have the same routine – that every week has a new experience.
My burning ambition … is to continue to learn and grow and be receptive to change.
